Oliver (Peanut)
Peanut (the name we gave him when he was first born due to his extremely small size) was our most unique puppy experience to date. He was born weighing 4oz while his littermates were all 16oz. In order to give him the best chance of survival we spent long days and nights making sure he was getting mom’s milk every 30-60 minutes. The vets best guess was that he was in a pocket with just enough nutrients to survive, meaning he was unable to develop like the others. We did not give up on him and he continued to grow, just at a much slower rate. Eventually we had to move him to our black liter of puppies that were born 2 weeks later because his littermates were pushing him off Maple, making it difficult for him to get enough milk. Our other mom, Onyx, thankfully took him in without issue and his new brothers and sisters accepted him too. He was the same size as the new black puppies, 16 oz. even though he was 3 weeks older than them. With time he developed into a great dog here locally in Hayward Wisconsin with owner Jill. Oliver is now about 45 lbs., a little small for a male but has a great, big personality and is still growing into it. His owner says he is a very happy dog and loving life.
